Summer Crump joined the firm’s Norfolk office in 2024 and practices civil litigation defense with a focus on defending hospitals, physicians, dentists, nurses, and other health care providers in malpractice cases.
Summer brings a strong medical background with over 22 years of medical experience. She began her medical career as an EMT and Emergency Room Technician in 2001 while pursuing a Biology degree with minors in Biochemistry, Psychology, and Chemistry at Old Dominion University. In 2007, she earned her Masters in Physician Assistant from Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) and received the PAragon award for her outstanding achievements.
Summer’s diverse background includes teaching Anatomy and Physiology, acting as a medical expert in wrongful death and medical malpractice cases and serving as a motivational speaker nationwide. However, the changes in medicine that evolved towards the end of her medical career led her to transition to law where she earned her Juris Doctorate degree from Regent University School of Law in 2023. Summer’s practice areas prior to obtaining her license to practice law included internal, family, correctional, and urgent care medicine with a primary focus in emergency medicine and has worked in various hospitals and free-standing emergency departments throughout the state.
Her expertise in the fields of medicine and law allows her to effectively litigate complex medical malpractice claims. Summer’s fluency in medical jargon is a valuable asset in managing medically intricate cases. As a former medical practitioner, she understands the effects that lawsuits have on medical providers and is able to advocate for her clients through the process.
During her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, playing basketball and volleyball with her two children, and watching them compete at sporting events.
