Firm’s Hunger Heroes Receive Local Volunteer Service Award

Over the past few weeks, Goodman Allen Donnelly attorneys and staff have supplied crucial volunteer workers as part of our commitment to the 2019 Legal Food Frenzy, and for the second year in a row, the firm’s Norfolk office has been awarded the Local Volunteer Service Award. Volunteer teams from each of our offices spent an afternoon packing and sorting food donations in their respective food bank branch: FeedMore (Richmond); Blue Ridge Area Food Bank (Charlottesville); and Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore (Norfolk).

According to Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization, their network of food banks, pantries and meal programs serve virtually every community in the United States — 46 million people, including 12 million children and 7 million seniors. In Virginia, nearly 900,000 Virginians, including 250,000 children, are food insecure and often have to worry where their next meal will come from. Virginia’s food banks serve approximately 1 million people a year and work hard to secure the most nutritious items possible.

In addition to the money and food collected through efforts like the Legal Food Frenzy throughout the Commonwealth, volunteers have a huge impact on food banks and the communities they serve. Not only is this volunteer service critical to the mission of the food banks, it’s also a great team-building exercise, and one that we highly recommend! A heartfelt thank you to all of our attorneys and staff for participating in this worthwhile effort.
